Summer Reading Program . Each week, we hid a paper Orbit, the green alien mascot of the Houston Astros, somewhere in the library, then gave two clues to his location. Those who found Orbit, could report his location to a librarian and put their name in a drawing for a plush Orbit. On August 6th, Summer Reading came to a close, and with it, the weekly scavenger hunt for Orbit. We had a huge response throughout the summer but, in the end, Luke was our big winner. At the Houston Museum of Natural Science’s Sugar Land campus on Fridays and Saturdays, children of any reading ability can practice their skills by reading to trained therapy dogs. These dogs are trained to be docile and to interact well with people and get to further enhance these skills during the reading sessions, while the children improve their reading.
